I was invited to take a look at Hawkinge House and directed to this video.
What a super looking care home, showing that care homes can be light and airy as well as welcoming. The space created here is amazing and the comments from visitors and family members tell their own stories. The space provides a fantastic experience for everyone that is able to use it. I would prefer to see specially created spaces for people with dementia to be placed at ground level, this expands the space naturally with access to the garden, which should be a safe contained space too. However, I have to say that I am impressed by what I have seen via the video, it appears to be a large and welcoming space for all to use and, after watching this, I simply had to share the video with you.
When asked to comment further on The Village Green, Helen Murray explained, "We are promoting and actively encouraging our residents and families to live well with a dementia, in a safe secure space."
I do hope the video will inspire you to really think about how your space can be used to benefit your care home, and local, community. Care home environments can be wonderful places to live.
