At Aran Court Care Home in Birmingham, Breast Cancer Awareness Month turned into a heartfelt day of pink-themed fundraising, creativity, and community spirit, raising a fantastic £175 with a raffle.
This October event brought residents and staff together in support of breast cancer awareness, a cause that touches so many, with statistics showing that 1 in 8 women in the UK will face breast cancer in their lifetime. In the spirit of this cause, the 84-bed care home, part of Avery Healthcare Group, was decked out in pink decorations, from the dining areas to the lounge, radiating the signature colour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In a show of solidarity, residents donned pink boas and enjoyed activities that sparked joy and connection. A pottery painting session offered everyone a chance to get creative, while a lively sing-along of Lily the Pink filled the room with smiles. Residents also indulged in delicious pink-themed cakes prepared by the care home’s chef.
Creating a space for open conversation, the event encouraged residents and staff to share personal experiences with the disease. A Carer bravely spoke about her own experience of recently losing a close friend to breast cancer, highlighting the emotional toll on loved ones, especially on her friend’s young daughter. This moment underscored the importance of awareness and support in times of hardship.
Sharon, the Well-Being Coordinator at Aran Court, shared, “It was an emotional day, but witnessing everyone come together for such an important cause made it even more special. The funds we raised will contribute to vital research in the search for a cure.”
Deborah Smith, Aran Court’s 58-year-old Resident Ambassador, described the event as “a wonderful day with lots of interactions between residents and their relatives. We had lots of cake and raised funds for a great cause.”
This successful fundraiser not only contributed to breast cancer research but also brought residents, staff, and families closer, reinforcing a sense of unity and purpose at Aran Court. The team plans to continue hosting similar events that foster meaningful connections and support vital causes, inspiring us all to make a difference - one pink day at a time.
