Judy Parfitt, twice BAFTA-nominated star, has become one of the first ambassadors for Dementia UK – the provider of dementia specialist support through its Admiral Nurses.

Speaking about Judy’s appointment. Dr. Hilda Hayo, Chief Admiral Nurse and CEO at Dementia UK, said: “We are delighted to have Judy Parfitt as an ambassador for our growing charity.  She is a vocal campaigner for the need for more Admiral Nurses. She has also supported our annual fundraiser, Time for a Cuppa, over the years, encouraging people to get together over tea and cake to raise money for our dementia specialist Admiral Nurses.”

Talking about her role with the charity, Judy said: “My husband was with me physically but lost in every other way to dementia. My husband became my child. I am honoured to be an Ambassador for Dementia UK.”

Judy’s role as Ambassador will help to bolster Dementia UK’s profile as it seeks to provide more access to Admiral Nurse support for the increasing number of families facing dementia.

Admiral Nurses work alongside people with dementia and their families and offer one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions so they can face dementia with more confidence and less fear. The Nurses work across a range of care settings within the community, hospitals, hospices and care homes. Some Nurses also work on Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline – the only nurse-led helpline in the country which is available to anyone with any questions or concerns around dementia.

Judy Parfitt will be starring in Call the Midwife Christmas Special on 25th December 2019 on BBC One.
